Noob skinning question

Postby Tracie on Tue Dec 30, 2003 6:42 am

Is it possible to copy parts of one screen to another? I'm not talking about single items like a button or changing a background. I'm setting my skin up so that each screen in the music section has one part that is the same - it holds all of the control & navigation functions that are shared by the Music, Musicviewer & Playlist. The problem is that this part of the screen is really tedious to set up & if there was a way to just somehow copy that part, it would save lots of time. The background is the same for all 3 screens, if that helps.

Tracie,

Am at work at the moment but i know you can select multiple buttons in the skin editor - hold down a key (i can't remember which) and drag a box around the buttons. Can you not copy this?

Having said that i normaly load the skin into notepad and copy and paste the buttons to the other xml skin.

Later
Simon.

Tracie,

Another alternative is to create the part of the screen which will be common to all of the other screens, close out of xlobby and use explorer to copy the screen file you are using as a template and paste and rename as many copies of the template as you want inot your skin directory. When you restart xlobby, they should be there waiting for you.

Basic Keyboard Commands

(Ctrl + X) = cut
(Ctrl + C) = copy
(Ctrl + V) = paste
(Ctrl + S) = save skin state
(Ctrl + Z) = restore previously saved skin state (just incase you make mistakes)
(spacebar) = show grid

Basic Mouse Commands

(Shift+left mouse button) = multiple button selection

You can multi select your buttons, copy, change screens, then paste. I'm also currently trying to come up with an easier way to do this, so that 1 button can be on more then one screen, that way changes to it will be seen on all the other screens....but for now you have to do it the hard way.

Thanks everyone. I can't seem to figure out how to make the multi select feature work, but it doesn't matter anyway since I decided against doing what I was thinking about.

I noticed that in order to multi-select features while editing you have to hold shift and drag a box from the upper left to the bottom right. simply holding shift didnt work for me.
