Database browser thing being disconnected from database?

Postby VRS-1 on Tue Jan 09, 2007 4:46 pm

Greetings again,

When I switched my skin and such over to a different computer, I ran into a new problem. Again I searched these forums and didn't find any discussion of it, but this one might just be my not knowing what the right terms to search for were.

When XLobby starts, the games database does not show up -- the category database browser thing is blank. Not sure if it matters, but this browser is on the startup page for the skin. Now, when I go into the skin editor and select the object and go to the category/database tabs, the database that it is supposed to be tied to isn't selected. Some more info in numbered form for easy reference:

1) - If I select a different database, say "movies", and then select "games", all of the games pop up onto the screen like they should have been.

2) - If I select the games database without selecting another one first, they don't show up.

3) - Without going into the skin editor at all, if I go into the F2 menu, select databases, select games, and hit the refresh button, the games database browser is populated and works.

4) - triggering a games category refresh via event does NOT work, despite #3

5) - If I do #1 or #3 and then quit out and restart, it's back to not being tied to the database again upon reloading.

6) - This problem is all on one of two computers. The other computer works fine across the board.

7) - I've tried moving all kinds of things from the first computer to the second, up to and including the ENTIRE Xlobby folder.

I feel like I must've done something wrong... because I can't think of what would be different causing one to work and the other to not work. Has anyone seen this type of behavior before or know what I might have screwed up?

Thanks,

-VRS

Try clearing the Cache images or delete the Cache folder and refresh/reimport all your databases

I had the exact same problem a while back with my Intheaters plugin/db. Each time you restarted Xlobby the category would lose the association with the database and display nothing. After 2 weeks of troubleshooting I found that renaming the category (as silly as that seems) fixed my problem. Renaming the database btw would not fix the problem - it was almost as if either Xlobby had the category name hard coded somewhere already or the XML was corrupted. But I rebuilt the XML by hand even and that didn't fix it. So give renaming the category a try, I just added an X to the category name and all my problems went away...

Weird that you have the problem on one PC and not the other - is the Xlobby instance an exact copy between them or are you running different stuff on each? If not then can you copy your entire Xlobby directory from the working PC to the non-working PC?

good luck,
