Making buttons? Animation?

How do you make button's rollover state work. I have 2 graphics (png) an up and down state for each button but how do I make them into a working button?

Can I make regular web button GIFs? and if so can xlobby recognize other animated gifs? if not I would like to be able to have some animation like GIFs or better yet SWFs.

you have to rename them.

button.png = regular state
button-down.png = depressed button
button-enter.png = highlighted or mouse-over button
