overlays on PPC

As I mentioned elsewhere, I just got my Axim, so I'm working on PPC screens in my skin.

What I came upon as first is weird overlay behaviour...

It seems that, from the PPC, I can only either open overlay on the XLOBBY SERVER, or (if using global overlay) on BOTH XLOBBY SERVER _AND_ THIN CLIENT.

Now...

Why would I want an overlay on BOTH server and client? PPC screens are so small, they're barely visible on my TV... (XLOBBY SERVER)

I also don't know why whould I need opening an overlay on SERVER, since if I'm using PPC to control XLOBBY, I am looking at the PPC screen

So... Is there a way to open overlay on thin client ONLY?

this isn't really the answer to the question you asked

but the overlay's that open on the server will be the full screen equivalents...that's also how mimic works you have a ppc with screen name ppcweatheroverlay and also a regular screen with weatheroverlay as it's name and it will know that they're suppossed to be equivalent, so then you use close global overlay as your action on overlays and when you chooose what you want to do on the ppc it will also close...oh an i just realized i have some ppc overlay only screens...or used to at least...have you made sure they have 'ppc' as the first three letters of the screen name?

So if you call a global overlay but there there is not a full screen equivalent on the server, do you get an error or the behavior that Dalibor is seeking?

i think as long as the ppc overlay has ppc at the beginning of the name it will only open on the ppc side, but i'd have to check it out to be sure

Hmm, now you got me thinking... Since the PPC is not mimicking the main screen, I didn't think of using ppcmusic and music overlays (same name on server and client with ppc in front of ppc overaly), but tried using ONLY overlays on ppc (and yes, they all begin with ppc__ )...

the whole concept is a bit strange.... If i run i.e. slideshow, it runs on the CLIENT, not server. But it doesn't work well, because it only shows first image and stays there. But then, if I run play movie it runs on SERVER (which makes sense)...

How are other people using PPC screens? Are you mimicking SERVER screen or...?

I also have speed problems. At 50% or the quality, the overall operation is pretty slow.... (compared to normal XLobby server usage)

Yes, when the ppc screens are named same as server screens plus the ppc in front, it all works well, even the mentioned slideshow works on the server

I didn't try the overlays yet.

Can anyone comment on the speed of the PPC and how fast it updates, etc?

What quality setting do you use? How do you connect PPC to xlobby (bluetooth, wifi (b or g) )?

At 320x240 100% quality and using Wifi-B it takes about 1 second to update the screen...occasionally 2. Responding to a button press on the server side is near instantaneous...things like 'Play' or 'Stop'
