usb-uirt with media player classic / zoom player questions

Postby Natemere on Sat Dec 24, 2005 8:55 pm

I am using media player classic to play movies because it is free. I plan to get the usb-uirt receiver/transmitter to comtrol xlobby. Before I do I have some questions:

1. Can mpc ( Media Player Classic) be paused, fast-forward, skip track, etc. using remote, or would I need to use zoom player for that capability?

2. Can I use my Dish Network remote to control xlobby and movie controls, for example if I click on the DVD button on the remote and use those particular buttons? I know that Dish remotes are 56 khz so I would need the 56 khz receiver option with the usb-uirt.

I don't need to use the PC to control my Dish boxes or dvd player or anything else right now. Just Xlobby and movie capabilities when watching movies launched from xlobby.

Yes, but you need another piece of software, that is Girder. Girder would receive singals and send messages to MPC.

With Girder, yes (if your receiver supports remote)

Which version of Girder do I need?
4.0?
Standard or Pro?
I have read about freeware versions of girder, will they work? I think versions 3.1 or 3.2 or something?
I thought I had read about people using usb-uirt without Girder, is that possible?
What sort of capabilities/ limitations are gained/lost with or w/out Girder?

Do people use special remotes more or regular remotes already around the house?

I don't have USBUIRT but IrMan and FireFly (RF) so I can't use XLobby's built-in functionality. Girder is much more powerfull in that it can interat directly with all medai players and programs, even have scripting etc.

I bought girder 4 but still use last version of 3.x because not all plugins are transfered to v4 (i.e. serial plugin whch I use to control TV set).

You could probably go w/o girder it'd be easier for you, girder has it's own logic and can be hard for beginers, but once you understand it it's very powerfull.
