Some help from the experts?

I am trying to understand what is going on with a new XL version that has intruduced new features, but unfortunately caused several things in my skin to stop working, I need to ask some questions which I hope are pretty simple:

1) is 'filterdetails' a pre-defined category with XL? how does it work?
2) The XL event 'Show ABC Overlay' has a field called 'Category'. What is this for? (it is currently set to 'filterdetails')
3) On the abc overlay that is being opened, there is a box which displays the results of the search. What is this actually displaying? (in the category tab, it is set to 'filterdetails')
4) The category tab now has some additional fields which I need explanation for:
a) Instant Update?
b) Jump To Details?
c) Details Cat?


In the HeavyMetal skin, the seach function for music is working, but I can no longer get it to work for movies.

I'll try an answer some of the questions...

1) is 'filterdetails' a pre-defined category with XL? YES

how does it work? When you apply a filter to a category (ie using the Xlobby\set filter command in the event editor) the result is captured in the filterdetails category, unless you specify an alternate results category for the event.

2) The XL event 'Show ABC Overlay' has a field called 'Category'. What is this for? (it is currently set to 'filterdetails') You didn't mention which skin you are using...but it sounds like in your case it is being used to filter the filterdetails category using whatever you type in (ie button input text) - for example let's say I want to filter my movies, I set a filter on movie title and open an overlay that contains the filterdetails category where I see all my movies listed by title. Now I click a button tied to the "Show ABC Overlay" event, I click the letter buttons "BAD" and now all the movies that contain a "BAD" are listed Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, etc.

3) On the abc overlay that is being opened, there is a box which displays the results of the search. What is this actually displaying? (in the category tab, it is set to 'filterdetails') See above, it definitely depends on how the skin is configured, but in your case it should be using the result of the text input filtering

4) The category tab now has some additional fields which I need explanation for: These have been in XL for a while now (July/Sept)...

a) Instant Update? Primarily for multi-category screens to update instantly as you navigate the category - see:

c) Details Cat? Allows you to show the detailed information of a category in another category, think multi-level db's - see the links for the multi-category screens above. Another example is the InTheaters plugin Simplicity Default skin files - the "Theater Details" overlay uses the details cat "Xintheaters_showtimes" to display the showtimes available for each theater as you navigate the primary category "Xintheaters_theaters".
