noob question - Foobar not working

Help each other out

Postby rembetis on Mon Nov 14, 2005 11:26 pm

Hi Colby,

It was me, not the original poster, who emailed you asking for your help on this problem. If you don't use Foobar or Flac, there's really no reason to trouble yourself. I was just looking for someone with long-term experience with Xlobby to look over the thread and see if anything jumps out that I missed.

In any case, for others who may need a flac file to offer help, you can grab one here.

I gots the solution. It is right in front of our noses.
http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 3b34741123

You download foobar plugin
In the foobar plugin folder.zip, are 2 files
msvcr71.dll
foo_xlobby.dll

You take the msvcr71.dll file and put it in your foobar2000 directory
(ie. Program Files\Foobar2000\msvcr71.dll)
The other file you put into the components directory of the Foobar2000 directory
(ie. Program Files\Foobar2000\components\foo_xlobby.dll)

Then you enjoy your music!

Sharp eye, Colby.

Zhopudey, I know you mentioned putting the .dll files into the Foobar directory in your first post, but did you put foo_xlobby.dll into the components folder?

Audio files are Flac ( eac + FLAC) and mp3.

1> I extracted xlobby2, xlobby2main, and xlobby2prerelease1 to a folder ( don't rememberthe order), overwriting common files. Put the fb2k plugins in its directory.

Noticed you mentioned xlobby2main. That is the old release. All you need is xlobby2prerelease1 and xlobby2. Unzip xlobby2prerelease1 first then overwrite with xlobby2.zip. Order does matter. Then apply foobar plugins. My guess is something from the older xlobby2main is overwriting something.

I imagine you're pretty tired of hearing from me, but just to be sure... when you're switching from Winamp to Foobar and vice versa (adding a zone and removing the other) are you restarting Xlobby each time? Because the players only load correctly if the zone is configured *before* Xlobby loads.

I just tried to recreate your steps but downloaded only the prelease (which is really all you need for basic music playback, the xlobby2main just updates the .exe with recent developments). Added a music directory of flacs and imported. Added a Winamp zone. Then went to music and tried to play something. Didn't work. So I went into F2 > Skins and hit restart. Then tried to play music again and it worked perfectly.

FWIW...

zhopudey,
last night I tried to trouble shoot. I was able to get fb2000 to load with start of XL, but not actually play music. The problem was the plugins were not in the correct places. It didnt seem to matter that I wasnt using the newest update exe. Tell me this,

1. start XL and fb2000 loads?
2. your database of music is populated with entries in XL?
3. when you click the music category you can get a song to add to playlist? (not hear anything)
4. Minimize XL and see if the playlist of foobar has an entry.

If the foobar player running behind XL does not have the nowplaying or another song in the playlist, then XL is not communicating with foobar. This check eliminates the database being the problem or the player.

Thats the problem I had last night. I corrected it by my prev post. How is your situation different?

I've put msvcr.dll in C:\Program Files\foobar2000, and foo_xlobby.dll in C:\Program Files\foobar2000\components.

foobar starts with xlobby. I can see all the music I've added, along with cover art. When I click on play, nothing happens. No song is added to foobar. I've posted parts from my music.xml
Heres another SS
Image
Yo can see the timer @ 0.00/0.00, but it doesnt start playing.

BTW, winamp is now working. I removed winamp zone and added foobar zone, and restarted xlobby a zillion times. But no luck. I tried directsound, waveout, asio, everything. Tried mp3 as well as flac.
Foobar works great outside xlobby. Apparently, xlobby isn't communicating with foobar properly.

I'm using foobar2000 v0.8.3

Can you send me a small .flac file that will not work in XL. And is your G: (music) drive internal or usb or something? I cant reproduce an error here.

BTW what did you do differently to get winamp working?

Well, I don't have a small flac file. :( But flac is working in winamp after adding the plugin. I don't know what I was doing wrong earlier and what i did now, but it started working.
And foobar isnt working with mp3 either.

( I removed winamp bfore adding foobar)

G: is internal hdd.

If you have multiple players in the setup, these become zones. So, you would need to change zones to play the item. There are other things we could do to troubleshoot this, but I would rather not. How bad do you need foobar? Will winamp meet your needs? I am willing to find the prob if you must have. Otherwise goodluck.

foobar worked for a very short while just now!!!! I removed foobar entry and added winamp, and without restarting, played a song, and it played in foobar!!! But then i restarted xlobby, and back to same problem. Then I tried adding/removing foobar/winamp in all permutations combinations, but foobar isnt working. Winamp working fine though.

Well I guess I could use winamp, but I'd gotten rather used to foobar. Havent used winamp for almost a year. I had to download it to check with xlobby.

Anyways, now that foobar worked for a very short while, I'm determined to get it to work properly. i.e, of course, only if you help.

Lets show them softwares whos the master in the house.

Try this:

Load Xlobby, add a Foobar zone if you don't have one already (and remove the Winamp zone, so there is only one zone). Restart Xlobby.

In the default (Simplicity) skin go to Music > Show > Playlist > Clear. Close those overlays and try to load an album.

If it works, stop the music and restart Xlobby. Now go straight to loading an album. If it works this time, you should be all set.

I have had situations where Foobar gets stuck in some kind of loop where it loads its last state and Xlobby can't interact with it until the queue is cleared.
