How to startup controlling a specific zone?

Postby starmanj on Mon May 08, 2006 11:23 am

I love xlobby and am totally committed to this great software.

My wife gets frustrated because default skin starts up controlling the client's zone, but she wants to control the server it connects to, where the house music plays. I added a button right on the top, enabling control of zone 1 (the one we want), but she forgets to click it. I tried executing the event to control zone 1 when you click on music, but you can only have one event per button, so that won't work.

Any ideas to automatically startup controlling a specific zone?

I'm having a blast tinkering and playing with skins, this is a terrific hobby!

either make a new event with multiple commands, or if it were me I would make an enter event for the music screen. You do that in the skin editor under screen. Then when you enter this page the zone event will trigger. Good luck.

If the PC your wife is using is running is using the thin client, you can use the zone: (zone number) entry in the servers.txt file on the client. This will cause the client to start up controlling a specific zone. In case you haven't seen it, check out this thread for more details on the client - http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3053. I have noticed one bug/feature using this however. If the user changes the zone while using the client, the next time the client is re-started the entry in the servers.txt has no effect. It appears xlobby is remembering the zone settings for each client. The only way to reset this is to restart the xlobby server. I'm going to post this over in the bug reporting section to see if Steven can address this.

Thanks for the tips! My wife likes the new fat client with cached thumbnails, it is MUCH faster and great.

Colby, when I make a new button, the event chooser only lets me choose a single event. Is there a trick to adding another event?

PS-- when I try to select an album cover to edit (I want to overlay the artist name on top of each thumbnail), the editor will only let me select the whole page. How do I edit what appears on each thumbnail? Thanks for helping!

Not Colby but,
1)What you have to do is create a new "event" (F2/event) with the different tasks you want it to do.Then assign this new created event in the event chooser.
2) If you want to overlay the artist name, go to the skin editor (pause/break) and choose the category you want to edit, and then choose the category tab. In that tab, there are several tabs underneath, the first one is layout I believe, there choose the one you want (I forget the name, but I think it's the third option listed , sorry I don't have Xlobby on this computer :) )

Thank you! All is revealed! This is SO EASY now. This can be customized to anyone's taste-- it's a piece of cake!

You guys are heroes for putting this out there.

PS the pocketPC app works fantastic! And it's pretty fast.

Thanks Steve!!
