Got an idea, post it here

MediaPortal TVServer Plugin

Postby charli181 on Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:19 am

Is it possible to setup a page that will utilise the new MP feature of the TV Server using Xlobby as the client?

I am thinking of using VLC to connect to the stream which is run from another server. The reasoning behind this is that vlc has much less processor/memory overhang than the MP client.

If Xlobby could do all the MP client things like scheduling and changing channels and then I skin it so VLC starts on the stream (IP:port) I think this may be a good option...only throwing in the air to see what sticks though, others may have better options.

1/ change channel (current XL plugin can do this)
2/ schedule recordings (current XL plugin can do this)
3/ start stop timeshift

Lars, if you are remarking about the xltv plugin, this requires the MP client to be loaded which is processor intensive. If that is the only way then so be it, but outside the square with something like vlc that does not require speacial video decoders, etc, VLC seems alot more benificial. I might look into it myself as I have found that VB.Net can be used for plugins and maybe a bit of hacking and further reading on the MP TV server may get the results I am after.

On top of that, I may have to reach into my pocket and admit defeat on the machine I am using. It is only a Dell GX150 with 256MB Ram and 1.3 Ghz with a 128MB ATI Rage Pro card.

I tried that plugin already and I think it is great but the machine I have will not cope with the load...Once again I am trying not to spend money on hardware and have found software that can achieve what I want with such a low spec machine, so just trying to manipulate software(XLobby) to achieve what I would like.

I have many friends interested in what I am trying to achieve and for a machine of what I have thats is only worth $100-$200 on second hand market, I find that a bit of investigation may be worth while. A fully spec Media machine in Australia is worth $2000-$2500 which is a big difference and achive the same, if not better results based on XLobby's features.

Please understand I am not complaining or attacking you, but is there a way to target the MP TV Server direct without having a MP TV Client loaded on the XLobby machine and using VLC (or other Media Player) to target the rtsp stream?

that is what the new plugin will do. it will control the server from XL while u watch TV on zoomplayer or VLC
I just wanna have feed back on more functions on the new plugin before I start locking myself into a corner with functions.

I think you covered it before, maybe also the EPG from the TVserver database although that would be difficult.... :? and maybe a listing of recorded programs.... Not much of a recording fan as such..others may want to add though....
