PowerDVD command line parameters

Postby cwiebe on Wed Sep 21, 2005 11:33 am

I was having trouble getting PowerDVD to actually start playing the video. I sent Cyberlink a support request asking if the program supports command line parameters. They responded the program does NOT support command line parameters.

So how can people here be using PowerDVD with XLobby? Do they know something CyberLink support does not?

True enough. The whole purpose of using xlobby was to give the person a simple interface.

I believe a majority of the users integrate ZoomPlayer (~$30) or TheaterTek (~$70) into xlobby...

Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Forget PowerDVD. ZoomPlayer is the way to go. It is the absolute best product in the market. On my setup, it can play DVD iso images, SVCD multi-part bin files, window media format, Mpeg4 all with excellent command line support.

PowerDVD doesn't need command line options in order to work with XLobby. All you have to do is pass a file to PowerDVD in quotes. So in the File Types tab within Setup, you use "%file%" as your Command Line Switch for PowerDVD. MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE QUOTES OR POWERDVD WILL LAUNCH BUT NOT OPEN THE MOVIE.

PowerDVD opens but....

Postby fizzasist on Sun Sep 17, 2006 12:36 am

I got PowerDVD to open but it does not play the file. I added the "%file%" in the file types page in xlobby but it still does not come up.

Am I missing something?

Can people control PowerDVD with their remotes? Or are they just starting playback?

ZoomPlayer Review

Postby y2kdeuce on Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:15 pm

http://dvd-player-software-review.topte ... eview.html

Summary:
Overall, Zoom Player software is challenging to use and install. If you must go through the trouble of installing another company's audio and video decoders on your computer just to get Zoom Player to work, why not just spend a bit extra for a complete player?

The only benefit Zoom Player has over other players is that it offers you the opportunity to tweak the player (by playing with the different codices) to meet your exact preferences. If you enjoy rebuilding and customizing software as some enjoy rebuilding and customizing old cars, then this program may suit you just fine. Zoom player it is one of the few players that will give you full control of filters, file associations and other settings.

Try looking at your movies database. Open your movies database in notepad and for each movie there should be a file path, in my case it's in the parameter field so I would pass "%parameter%" instead of "%file%". But then again I use Ant Movie catalog with XAnt to import all my movies. It's worth a look to make sure you are passing the right variable to your DVD application.
