PPC and wireless network problems....

Postby ngiachin on Fri Apr 22, 2005 2:09 am

Hello - I am trying to setup my xlobby box to work with my Dell Axim. If I run xlobby on a PC connected via ethernet, I can connect up just fine with my PPC. However, my xlobby server is on a wireless node. Whenever I try to connect to it, my PPC just hangs until I disable the wireless, exact same thing happens if I try to connect from the ethernet pc. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or what the problem might be? It is driving me nuts. Thanks.

Have you thourghly tested all aspects of your wireless connection and made sure all the different protocols work? Maybe your router is limiting protocols on the wifi network or something along that line. I use exactly the configuration you're talking about with no issues and for a while I only had a 1 or 2 Mbps connection to my HTPC and still worked rather well (but I just got Wifi-G and now a 95% connect at 54 Mbps :) ).

Is the pc u tried with that worked the same pc u are unable to connect when its wireless?
Did u check the firewall settings on the wireless card, maybe u didn't open the correct port on the card. Enable logging for sp2 firewall to check just in case.(if it is xp sp2 that is)

I figured it was something to do with opening the right ports on my router, but then I thought that those virtual servers and port forwarding options were only relavent when trying to gain access from outside the network. Why would it not work then on two pcs connected via the wireless, but yet works when the box connected via ethernet just fine???

I assume, since your Xlobby server can connect wired and wirelessly that you have 2 network cards, 1 wireless and 1 wired. When you connect your Axim to the server, do you use the ip address of the wired network card or the wireless network card?

I am assuming again, that you are using the IP address of the wired network card since you can connect to it if the server is wired and not if it is wireless. Did you change the IP address in the Servers.txt file to the wireless card's ip address?
