Bluetooth PDA problem with WIFI server XLobby

Postby spudgun on Thu Oct 05, 2006 10:35 am

Sorry about the Subject title, but I don't know how to condense my problem into six(ish) words!!

I have a laptop with Xlobby running as a fat client. This is connected via a WPA encrypted WiFi connection to a server which contains all my music (about 20Gb in mp3).
Xlobby runs fine with this setup.
I also have a iPaq PDA with Bluetooth which I can connect to my laptop (even with the Wifi connected).
What I cannot do is connect my PDA with XLobby (to use as a remote/thin client) via Bluetooth whilst Xlobby is connected to my WiFi server (the one with the music!).
I have tried everything - connecting the PDA to laptop before running Xlobby doesn't work as Xlobby changes the server address to the WiFi address.
I have tried to change the Xlobby.xml file to read only in an attempt to stop Xlobby from changing it - but it does not work.

If I turn off WiFi and boot up Xlobby I can connect to the PDA via bluetooth.

The reason I don't use the laptop as a controller is that I plug it into my 32" LCD HDTV via RGB and into my DD amp and I would like to control it via PDA.
Ultimately I would also like to make the move to storing my Divx / DVD's to view via Xlobby as well!

Any Help???

Are you using an Ad-hoc Wifi connection or do you have a Wifi AccessPoint (AP)?

Ad-HOC - It's a peer-to-peer WiFi network. It's not connected to the internet so I'm not using access points.

As far as i know, wifi and bluetooth should not interfere (there could be performance degrading due some interferance (25%?), but they shouldnt block each other out) wimax is another story however...

How is this relevant... i just wanted to say that IMO there shouldnt be nothing wrong in setup inherent from radio spectre :D , should be just software problem...

Hmmm. that's what I thought.

Could it be that Xlobby is somehow changing my server address to the one used by my wi-fi connection?

Anyhow, I'll go give it another try!!

Thanks for the help

Well...... I've tried and tried and tried.
I have even setup Xlobby on a fresh install of XP ProSP2 with no other programs, only Xlobby & foobar (version 0.8).

If I leave the Wifi off, connect my PDA via Bluetooth and load up Xlobby, I can use the PDA as a remote. However, as soon as I turn on the Wifi (even if Xlobby is running & I have connected the PDA and using it), I can no longer use the PDA - I'm stuck on the XLobby PDA screen I was last using with no response (I can still use the fat client with mouse & keyboard).

I can join a personal network via Bluetooth in XP even with Wifi is running (before loading Xlobby).

It's as if Xlobby "favours" the wifi connection over the Bluetooth.

Is there any way that I can overcome this problem?

Steve, are you aware of this - is there anything I can do to allow me to use Wifi & Bluetooth with Xlobby???
