Is the PC hidden in the cabinet under the LCD?

The pc is hidden under the desk (I've currently got it setup in my office). I'll be moving the screen and the computer to the family room entertainment center soon.

The frame is made out of trim board I got from lowes. I did some cuts with my mitre saw and nailed them together to create the frame. Slapped a white primer on it and then finished it with a black enamel coat. The lillipult 7" touch screen lcd slides into the back. It's almost like a picture frame. I've resized alot of the buttons to make them easier to press with my fat fingers. Or mostly I just use a pda stylus to keep from having finger prints everywhere.

Thats pretty slick summerall:

I have a question for you :

I've always thought of setting something like that in my *indoor* hot tub room but the condensation factor worries me.

Would a screen like this work in that type of environment?

rickren -

I'm not sure how this type of touchscreen would work in that environment. People put this brand of touchscreen in their cars and you know how hot cars can get in the summer time, but humidity is a different problem. Personally, I don't think I would chance it. Some folks have had lots of issues with this brand of lcd, but mine has worked just fine. Read up in the "LCD/Display" area of this forum - http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/

The cheapest place I could find them online (besides ebay) was here -
http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=33

$279 + shipping

Yes, the touchscreen works via USB. If you look closely at this picture the USB and VGA cable are combined into a dongle.

Sumerall,
Just to clear my understanding. Is the USB the only connection required to handle both Video and Touchscreen functions? Or do you need to use the 15 pin VGA for video and the USB for Touchscreen?

Thx,

N.

There's no (simple) way to pass VGA signal through USB connection.(although there are USB Video capture cards).
Maybe some day somebody will make a USB VGA card and then it will be possible :), but who will buy it and who actually needs something like that ?

No

Yes

Unfortunatley, you need both the USB and VGA connections for the touchscreen. The USB connection controls the touchscreen and the VGA connection carries the video signal. You can use the screen only with the VGA connection but then you loose the touchscreen capability  without the USB cable connected.

I've ran into problems extending the breakout cable they provide. I've extended it to about 20" but any length after that the picture quality degrades.
