walk thru of the internal media player v3

Postby billberet on Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:40 pm

Hi again, it's your annoying neighborhood irishman !!!!

can someone explain the inner working of the built in media player in V3
i'm trying to get some MKV files to play, but they seem to be lagging then crashing my XL.

the file associations have MKV set for zoomplayer max.
outside of XL, i can open up zoomplayer and play the file with no issues. but inside XL i have studdering then crashing.

since i have MKV set for zoomplayer in the file associations, does this mean that zoomplayer is actually playing the file inside XL? i have all the latest codecs for ZP.

I'm trying to figure out what i should be looking at to tweek XL to play these specific MKV files.

I was unable to get the internal player working to any degree that I would call "I understand exactly what is going on here". XL Phone support was helpful but I still ended up just going back to Girder and Zoomplayer. I just assume it will slowly get better and I will try again.

the internal media player works on merit based. I doubt u can create a graph for it.
look what codevs zoomplayer is using for your mkv files and then set merits for thoose codecs maually, then XL should use thoose and play them nicely.

Bill,

Install the ffdshow codec and this will play MKV file extensions. I tested here on my machine and it works fine.
http://www.xlobby.com/filters/ffdshow_rev610_20061201_clsid.exe

PhilB,

Please call us so we can assist you with DVD playback, I can assist you directly or have bob E-Mail you the proper files you need. It works perfect if you have power DVD 5 or 6 codec installed or a player that supports directshow rendering. We can provide you with the files and any assistance you need to get it working. :D

when you play mkv files, the only association is telling XL to use zoomplayer whenever a MKV file is chosen. but i don't know if that is happening even thou i associated it in the file extentions.
i installed ffdshow and when i use that codec, that is when i have some video, but no audio, then crash.

outside of xlobby, i use zoomplayer, and it uses the haali media splitter for the codec to play MKV.
i want xlobby to use haali media splitter as well.
but inside xl, where can i force this.
some MKV files play(low res), but the HD MKV files have issues with ffdshow, but Haali works smoothly
WES, the link you gave, is that the same install as the ffdshow website.
on the website i downloaded their codec, but it is like 2006 or earlier (i forget) it's old!!!
is your link a new version, maybe that is why mine is not playing.

**edit**
i swear the last time i checked ffdshow webpage, it was old codecs, now i'm seeing dec 2008
i will try this. but i don't know if it will handle the HD MKV. i'll post the results
this is where i am going, did you get your files here too?
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=173941

LAR, you stated ' set merits '
where can this be done, the haali codec has it's own video and audio config
that is where i forced the files to play in english with no subtitles. Can i set merits there?

thanks again

Bill,

I ran this on a machine with the current V3 build and download from the link I posted for the ffdshow codec. It works perfect.

Hi Wes,

Bob spent 30 minutes in Goto Meeting with me looking at my system and we could not make it work. You can talk to him about what he saw. I am open to try again but it is not critical in any way.

Philb,

Please call me tomorrow or by the end of the week. We have the file set we use for every xLobby machine we build in one download so we can definately get you up and running.

Make sure you speak to me first so I can instruct Bob on how to assist you. :D

Bill,

Glad you got your MKV files to work.

Wes, internal mediaplayer is merit based right? OR can we create a graph?

i thought it was merit based, cause when i go into F2 and try to edit the media player, nothing shows.
i assigned the file associations to show avi files with zoomplayer, what does this really mean?

does that mean the internal medai player is playing with zoomplayer codecs?
i'm trying to understand the file types cause i have video_ts play with cyberlink, but cyberlink never runs when i play a movie, the graph pulls the codec. but what tells the internal player to use for avi files?

i need a high level summary of what happens when we choose file types and play a file.
lets use AVI as an example.

how does XL play an AVI file, can you step thru the process.
thanks again

F2 File Types has NOTHING to do with internal mediaplayer if that is what u are asking. That option is for external players.

ahhhh said the blind man
i get it then.

so what you are saying is the internal media player uses the graph file for dvd only, that's about the only configuration a person can do.
avi, mkv and other video types just use whatever codec was used last? I have graphedit, so when i add an avi file to be mapped out, is that what the internal player is using, what graphedit shows me. (how the avi file is rendered)

so how do you configure the external players, i have no problem using zoom max for all my avi, mkv needs. i added the file types, what comes next.
But in all fairness, Since i installed the ffdshow given to me my Wes, everything seems to be working smoothly.
the ffdshow i got from soundforge didn't seem to do the trick.
