Setup Spiders

Postby Bigmaz on Sun Jan 07, 2007 7:42 pm

Hi

I love the program!!

I am trying use the spider control in Movies. When i click the spider, then click Search, it comes up with all the sites its searching, then says downloading after a few sites. But after it finishes, no information appears. Is there something you have to setup before using the spider button?

Thanks for your help

You didn't say what you were spidering for (music, movies) or which particular spiders you were using. Let's make sure you are up to date on the spiders. Download Steven's latest spider release: http://www.xlobby.com/spiders.zip

Here's some updated music spiders I uploaded last week: http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=35747#35747

Here's some working DVD spiders: http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=33643#33643

Unzip and place in the Xlobby\Spiders directory, do Steven's base spiders first. The do the next two links (replacing files as needed) and restart Xlobby.

You should now have working DVD spiders for Amazon.com, Buy.com, Walmart.com, IMDB.com, and Impawards.com (coveronly). Plus music spiders for Amazon.com, Buy.com, and possibly some others...

good luck,

Cheers for your help guys, got them working.

Some DVD covers that i select dont fill up the whole area dedicated to the cover in the movies menu, is there anyway to force it to stretch the image to fill the space?

Open the Skin editor on your movies page select the Movies display box on the page (it should highlight with a green dashed line) and choose Category in the skin editor. The RATIO value tells Xlobby how to display the images - I forget what the default is for movies but it should be something like 3:5. Double check that.

Xlobby will scale each individual cover into the display area you have defined for the category. If the cover has white space around it or is a different format/ratio Xlobby will scale it. So if all your covers were say 300X600 and you set the ratio as 1:2 then they would fill the display area entirely. If you add a cover that's 300x800 it will scale the height to fit the display area making your width much thinner than your other covers.

That's the long answer, the short answer is No stretch available...

good luck,

Also, I've found some "large" pictures to be the SAME size picture with lots of white space. You might try viewing the actual picture outside of XLobby to see if this is the case. Then you could try cropping the image to exclude the white space.
