Multiple PPC Clients Issue

Postby rbziggy on Thu May 12, 2005 11:14 pm

I've been running XLobby fine for a while with one PPC client to a XL server.

Now I've just acquired a second identical ppc which is set up the same except for the startup zone.

Each ppc shows up as a different ip address on the dhcp server.

Now I'm getting 'unexpected error' crashes and lockups on both ppcs (happens on one and then v quickly on the second - like they are connected)

Switching off the second ppc and the first continues to work fine.

The only 'unusual setting' I may have is refresh:1000 on both (so that the status bar on music and time is properly updated).

(Both Dell Axin X30 if that's of use)

Anyone else seen such behaviour?

Bit more info...

I took of the refresh option to see if it was anything to do with that; nothing changed so I guess not.#

When xlobby on the ppc crashes it gives the following message:

An unexpected error occured in xlobby2sd.exe. Select quit and then restart this program, or select details for more information.

More details gives:

xlobby2sd.exe
FormatException

Application::Run+0xf
Control::Main+0x19

Does this give any clues?

Thanks

Tried your suggestion of not setting a startup zone.

Unfortunately, no joy. Exactly the same thing happens with the second ppc crashing the first when it (the second is used). The first one works fine on its own still.

Have you tried just using the second ppc on its own? Is it the same as the first?

This sounds more like a newtork card issue in the second ppc. I have had 3 dell axims x5's with origo cards running happily with a couple of desktop thin clients as well but I now have a hp 4150 and this always crashes the client when the wifi goes to sleep.

Can u swap Network Cards in the PDA's? This might help determine if you are connecting properly to the Wireless AP or whatever you have setup

Well I thought it couldn't be anything to do with the network as I'd tried checking everything and both ppcs worked with internet explorer and other network applications. (Also the network adapter is built in on the X30s so I couldn't switch these.)

However, this morning I systematically rebooted and refreshed everything (sometimes twice) in the networks area (interestingly not the server). And... hey-presto now both ppcs work fine together.

I don't really know what did the trick but it's working really well and I'm very happy!

I'll monitor for a bit but looks like this one has solved itself.

Thanks
