SB1394 pinout?

SB1394 pinout?

Postby P3rv3rt B3ar on Tue Nov 28, 2006 12:44 pm

Not much to do with XL, but since i hang here so much and here are so many SB gurus here, i thought asking wont do harm...

I need a pinout of SB1394 (Sound blasters version of firewire, internal 9 pin connector).

Net is full of them, but after 15 minutes search, i find 4 different version and all of them from several sources... after my search i was more confused than before... so im not looking for something from net. But the right one 8)

I found this:

[1 2 3 4 5]
[6 7 8 9 ]

1 | TPA+
2 | TPA-
3 | PHY_GND
4 | PHY_GND
5 | TPB+
6 | TPB-
7 | NC
8 | NC
9 | PHY_GND
10 | KEY (empty)

From here

Further down the page is a diagram and a slightly different pinout orientation...which appears to be more "official".

Hope this helps a little.

On another site, one guy put it good;

Alright, you say it's a 10 pin thing (1 missing), and motherboards with onboard firewire ports have the same thing, so I pulled this out of an Asus motherboard manual. No guarentees the pinout is the same as the audigy, but u might want to try it anyway. Not sure if it can do damage to hook it up wrong.

Edit: I would guess that VP would connect to +12V and VG would connect to any of the grounds.

TwoRails, this is seperate from the 40pin connector for the breakout box. There is actually a 9pin 2 row firewire connector on the card.

Here is his link
It kinda goes along with the diagrams in the link that I posted above.

Then further down the forum post, someone states this:

Ok, here it is, the pinout (and disclaimer) from Creative. Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't go ahead and give it a try?

Below is the pin layout information for the internal SB1394 connector (JP6) on the Sound Blaster Audigy family of cards.

Pin Assignment
1TPA+
2TPA-
3PHY_GND
4PHY_GND
5TPB+
6TPB-
7NC
8NC
9PHY_GND
10KEY (Not Used)

The internal SB1394 interface is normally reserved for connecting to the internal AudigyDrive shipped with the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum or the breakout back plate shipped with the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX.
Creative Labs does not support connecting 3rd party devices directly to the onboard SB1394 connector. The pin layout information is provided for your convenience only. The labeling of IEEE1394 connectors or wires on 3rd party devices may be different from labeling provided above. When connecting 3rd party devices to the SB1394 interface, always verify the labels on the cables or connectors first before connecting them together. Please, note that you connect any 3rd party device at your own risk and any damage that results to your Audigy card voids your warranty

Hope this helps somemore.

Thanx marbles, those sites were ones i found earlier, what was confusing to me earlier was different pin numbering... but now that i thanx to u, looked again realised that otherwise those more official sounding/looking data were same.

And finally found confirmation from creative site that the "official looking" document is indeed official. So wierd N-type pin ordering scheme is right one.

ok... off to connect some wires...

i recently bought a bunch of internal front panel header extensions in short lengths with the right pinouts and gender ... worked great and the shipping was zip-fast.....

Wow! thats pretty good idea there... its damn shame they do it so plasticly... wont help much us htpc people... brushed aluminium would be another story.

In this particular instance however i have socket in case already... there just wasnt firewire support on mobo... but this used SB-card i received yesterday will solve that prob... (hopefully)
