Search / filter documentation

Postby asc99c on Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:43 pm

Hi all,

Is there any documentation on searching / filtering databases? I'm using Naylia's skin which doesn't have it built in, and not getting very far after about 6 hours work on this.

I've got a 'Filters' button on my movies list screen, which shows an overlay window with more options. One of these is A-Z search which shows a keyboard overlay. The keyboard buttons just do show>a, show>b etc. and this works fine.

The other buttons are for filtering genre etc, and these all do absolutely nothing. I've tried doing set filters, custom searches etc in the events and it just never has an effect. I'm now completely out of ideas.

I've copied most of this stuff from the default skin, and got an install of Xlobby now on another machine using the default skin so I can compare settings. It all looks the same, just doesn't work in the XLobbyMC skin.

I've got this fixed now but not sure how...

If I put in a results category of movies it all works fine. It says optional, but if that value isn't there, the filter does nothing. Not sure why though because it's just not there on the default skin and it works OK in that.

A couple more questions are now raised though. Filtering by actors doesn't bring up any results. I've got it implemented the same as the genre filter, but filtering on actors just makes the page blank.

Secondly, is it possible when filtering to jump to a specific result. I've added an 'unwatched' tag to a few movies with a value of 'true'. Currently, I have a new movies filter, but filtering on this gives a screen with a single entry of 'true' that has to be clicked through to get the desired results. Is there any action to do this click through?

Most of the spiders (at least at the moment...) are not pulling back actor info, have you checked that any movies have actors present? (none of mine have!)

I wrote a plugin a while ago called xJumpTo which will select a given entry in a database, it works fine for "flat" categorys but it wont navigate down into sub-folders to find an item.
