xlobby with multi zone IR, upgrade from usb-uirt

Postby billberet on Mon Oct 20, 2008 2:57 am

hey hey,

ok here's the question
i currently have usb-uirt running everything, and it's doing the job, but i need multiple zone now. so i figure it's time to upgrade.

my issue is i have 4 cable boxes and i can't just blast them all, i need individual blasters for each one.
this way when i hit power, the whole house does not turn on , lol.
i pay enough to the electric company already.

what kind of hardware will handle multi zone IR with xlobby. does anyone else have one?
it does not have to be big, 4 zones will do.

any suggestions?

Just off the top of my head, this may do it:
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5465

But it is a pretty expensive ticket...but looks pretty nifty.

That could work to most likely...just how to interface with xlobby. The software that comes with it, can it be command line based (very easy then), or could you use Girder as a substitute? This would still allow you to interface to xlobby easily as well.

I guess this article answers that questions:

And even more...

nice little tidbit, they will combine and make a new product just as i finish mine. lol
for half the price too, lol

i was going on this post
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4860&hilit=gc+100
it's funny, they talk about the usbuirt being multi zone
there was nothing in the documentation on it, where the extender port in the back of the usbuirt device is for another zone.

is this correct? There is nothing in the uirt plugin on where to send the IR.
if so, for now, i could have just solved my problem with no extra $$$$

I sent an email to the manuf, see what he says.

i got a reply, fast here is the email

Bill,

Yes, XLobby should support all the items you requested. The USB-UIRT has three zones -- the built in blaster as well as the L and R channel of the rear jack.

Best Regards,

Jon

now the question is, how do we do this

USB-UIRT output jack:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/attachm ... 1220727252

or this:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/attachm ... 1220726945

And how to get multi-zone support to work:
http://www.usbuirt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... light=zone

Specifically this:
Q: What about Zone support in other programs?
A: Many programs will automatically be zone-compatible if you have access to the IR codes file the program maintains. To use zones on these programs, pre-pend the letter Z and the zone number to the IR code, as follows:
example: 0000 0067 0000 0020 .... .... becomes
Z20000 0067 0000 0020 .... ....

example: F46R034510201020... becomes
Z2F46R034510201020...

Ha,
that's great
looks like all i have to do is add Z2 to the ir code and it will blast zone 2
looks like i'll have to take every IR code i have and create 3 versions.
wow that's alot of work, but at least i know it's doable now
i wonder if i can still use the usbuirt plugin, or do i have to go with girder now.
don't know if the uirt hardware is checking for the Z2 code, or is girder.

**edit**
never mind found this
USB-UIRT's manufactured since Mid-February 2004 have added multi-zone support in the hardware

i'll test it out when i get home.
thanks.

works great, added the prefix and the signal was blasted thru the correct port.
now i just have to duplicate the ir codes for all the other zones.

thanks again
