Other IR receivers supported with Xlobby or just USB-UIRT?

Postby showmethehtpc on Mon Oct 16, 2006 3:41 am

Hi.

I was wondering if the microsft remote control and IR receiver was supported wtih Xlobby or if anyone has use this IR receiver(or any other IR receiver for that matter)?

There are also many USB-to-IR devices and dongles selling on ebay.

Here is a link:

Some of the other IR receivers are mass produced and very inexpensive compared to the $60 needed for the USB-UIRT. The USB-UIRT is something hand built IR kit from england? It seems like a lot of things that can go wrong if each one has to be hand built from a kit?

Please let me know if there are other IR receiver solutions that will work with Xlobby or if it has to be that exact one(USB-UIRT)?

Thanks for your help.

With the help of Xremote plugin u can control xlobby from girder (v3.2 is free) girder can interface for example with winlirc and hip. Together these programs have ir-receiver plugin for almost every imaginable receiver. So basicly u can use any receiver in combination with xlobby.

Im personally using microsoft remote with IRtrans receiver, which interfaces with girder trough plugin which in turn interfaces with xlobby trough Xremote and is working beautifully.

(note that i used miucrosoft receiver too, directly with girder, with enchanted drivers and it worked great, but since my case came with embedded irtrans i migrated to little more complicated scheme because of aesthetics)

EDIT: Basic point is... if u r looking just for receiver (like i understanded from your post)... ur prolly happier with some cheaper solution than usb-uirt... on the otherhand if u r looking transceiver, purchase of usb-uirt comes much more tempting solution...

also note that irda isnt technology which remotes are using, so neither one of those usb-dongles u have linked, wont help u. (actually did some rechecking and it appears some irda devices can work with remotes? mayby somebody elaborates from here...)

Hi.

Thank for the reply. Where do I get the Xremote plugin ? Is that an Xlobby product or a 3rd party product? Is that already installed in Xlobby?

Is there another good IR receiver that is just a very basic unit at an alternative to the USB-UIRT?

I did not realize that the irda does not work(or without a great deal of work)

Thanks.

Scroll down to the bottom of the xlobby.com homepage - the plugins are there

Its made by member of this forum, so in that sense its third party, like most other plugins.

Well the microsoft one u listed on original post is rather good choige, its good deal and its very common... also comes with two blasters (allthougt i dont think it can compete with usb-uirt when it comes to transmitting).

before spending your bucks look at your junkpile though... u might have some product with included or embedded reciever already in your possession... many soundcards, tv-cards, mpeg boards etc... did come with receiver, and people have written girder/winlirc/hip plugins for those.

Also if u like electronics and like to build your own, theres lot of info about subject over net and it can be very cheap and fun.

Can the microsoft ir receiver

Postby showmethehtpc on Thu Oct 26, 2006 7:24 pm

Hi.

Can the Microsoft IR receiver capture any IR blast from any IR blasting remote source or only the ones from the Microsoft remote control?

In other words, if you wanted to run Xlobby using a Tivo remote instead of the Microsoft media center remote.

Could you use the IR receiver and just configure Xlobby commands to correspond with the Tivo signals received from the IR receiver or is the IR receiver made only to get IR codes from the Microsoft remote?

I'm trying to figure out if the IR receiver that comes with Microsoft media center can be an universal receiver using any remote you want?

Thanks.
