Unhandles Exception on startup.

Postby c_slides_easy on Thu Jun 07, 2007 8:36 pm

Hi everybody.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to xlobby so please be paiient with me.

I have only just discovered xlobby today and have installed it on a Windows server 2003 PC. When I start xlobby I get the following message:

"Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click
Continue, the application will ignor this error and attept to continue.
If you clisck Quit the application will close immediately.

Object reference not set to an instance of an oject."

I really need this PC to have a media centre installed on it, so any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Does that machine have .Net 2 installed. Xlobby requires .Net 2

At what point does the crash occur? What does the status window indicate? You'll see Databases, Events, Xnet IP connections, etc. At what point does that error occur?

The crash appears instantly. The crash window is over the top of the xlobby screen which just sits there and says please wait. If I click continue the screen just sits there saying please wait. Task manager indicates that the program is still running as well.

By status window do you mean when I click details button?

The Status window is at the bottom of the XLobby startup splash screen. It let's you know that buttons are being loaded, databases, plugins, audio, etc.

Which skin are you using? Sorry, I'm just trying to understand where the "Please wait.." is coming from. None of the splash screens I have ever seen state this (unless it flashes at some point). Normally the status starts with saying: Buttons, and the sequence is very similar to below.

Buttons -->IR -->Plugins -->Databases -->Settings --> Screens -->Audio Players -->"yadda yadda" --> Preparing to Start (last info you will see on the splash before going to the default start screen). Please note, I may have missed a couple of status messages in there too.

Is there another computer in which you can try the exact same install on? Maybe, just maybe Win Server 2003 is missing something that Xlobby requires? Most people run on XP, Win2k, "DRM infested" Vista. I haven't heard of many running it on Win Server....though I doubt very much that's a problem. Maybe do an uninstall, and a fresh install of .Net 2. Maybe that got corrupted somehow?

I am using the default skin, or I assume it is. This is a fresh install and the first time I have run xlobby.

It is a blue screen has the 'xlobby simplicity' logo in the middle, 'calrad electronics' logo in the top right of the screen and says 'build: 2.0.7154.26' in the bottom right of the screen. Underneath the xloby logo there is a bar saying 'please wait...'.

Hope the description is clear enough. I will try to install this n my Vista machine and see if it runs on that.
