Databases and fat clients

Postby Marbles_00 on Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:16 pm

Sorry for the trivial question, but I'm still learning how to use fat clients. If I want a fat client to use its own database as opposed to the server database, let's say for individualizing shoutcast, I would have to save/import the database from the skin/database directory. Is that correct? And the Xlobby/database directory is based on server information?

Thanks in advance.

yep you should be right, but I think it should be very nice if we can select which database(s) we can import from the server....
a request thread was done about it : http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

Marbles_00,
I've seen your post there : http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

I post here because I don't want confuse "doctor15" ....

you said :

To further this, you may have to setup different music screens to accomadate the different database locations. You could have Master list of music that resides on the server, then local list of music on the client.

I didn't realize that you were speaking about music database on your first post...

Just one question... why do you want to use different databases for music ? I can't understand why use a database whith unc path + a database with local path?

Why don't you use only one database with unc path, even if your files are not on same pc ?

you can get some trouble using zone control with database containing local path...

Actually, I don't want to do this with the music database. All my music is on the server, not a share between server and clients. I was asking for personalizing the shoutcast databases, dependant on inidividual's listening requirements on the clients (clients residing in children's rooms as an example). Maybe even photos later on. You should post what you said in that other users post as that is what he is intending on doing.

Thanks for setting me straight. As I have said, I'm learning all this as well and I don't want to misguide anybody if I'm incorrect...just want to help.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was actually considering starting something, but I'm afraid that being a novice myself when it comes to this topic, I'm not sure if I'm the one to do it. But, maybe I might take a stab at it, since there has been a few posts about fat client setup in the last few days (trying to get the little writer symbol as well  ).
