ColbySkin - Home Video Screen Setup Questions

Postby bmitchin on Sat May 13, 2006 3:21 pm

I am struggling with the ColbySkin2 home video setup. Seems like it should be as easy as setting up a new db and connecting the screen but I cant seem to figure it out.

Where am I going wrong?
1) go to home video screen
2) hit pause/break for skin editing
3) click the big block that I assume is a database object in the upper right hand corner (takes up most of the screen)
4) go to item->Category->database

and that is where it falls apart. when I click the Database tab, it stays on the layout tab which I assume means I dont have the right thing selected.

What am I doing wrong. I am new so step by step is really appreciated.

start off by reading my skinning document.

Have you created your database? Imported it in the setup menu? If so all you will need to do is select the category and then the database tab, choose your database.

Yes, I have read the guide and have found it very useful. It has helped me quite a bit but I need some examples on how to build a screen from scratch to really put it all together.

I have created the db and named it 'home video'. I imported the files and they look fine on the edit screen in the database tab.

I am having trouble connecting the screen to the database. I cant seem to get the category tab to work. No matter what I click on in the home movies screen, everything on the Category tab is grayed out. I am sure this is something simple that I just dont know yet. I notice that there is a green dotted box around the rectangle on the movie screen. Am I missing an object on the home move screen? If so, how do I add it. I assume it is on the default tab of the screen editor but I cant figure out how to add it.

that green dotted box is definitely the category.. as long as you have it selected with the skin editor you will see the green dotted box have a typical white dotted box around it too. When you go to the item>category tab if everything is still greyed out something is probably wrong on that screen.

If you still can't get it to work, just email me a copy of your customized skin, and make sure to include the database xml file you are trying to tie in with it.. email to jowaldo2k at hotmail.com

The problem is that I dont see the green dotted box on the home movies screen. I am using colbyskin2 and have not modified anything on that screen.

I do see the green dotted box on other screens such as the movie screen or the music screen. Just not the home movie screen.

Do I need to add an object to the screen? If so, how?

Thanks for your help!

Open the skin editor, add a category called homevideos or whatever, then associate it with your database.

Thanks Colby.

Great skin by the way! I am enjoying learning this process. You have given me a good starting point.

You have written a great document. It looks like it took a ton of time and energy went into it. I hope that I will soon have the base of knowledge that makes a reference guide what I need. Until I learn things like a Category is what connects a screen to db I am going to have to ask questions.

Thanks again for the help!
