client keeps crashing!

my setup WAS working just fine, but i just moved and now its very flakey. here is how it's setup... my main computer is in the media room. it has two network cards, a gigabit ethernet, and an 802.11G wireless card. the ethernet connects directly (with a crossover cable) to my server, which is just another computer with a bunch o' hard drives in it. the wireless connects to my wireless router. the two connections are bridged.

for control, i use a dell axim x30 with wifi. it connects to the wireless router of course. this setup worked perfectly at my last house. i used a belkin router there, but now i got a netgear, and its just not cutting it. basically, everytime i pick up the controller, the xlobby client just exits. sometimes, it will crash, and perform an illegal operation or something. if i leave it for more than 30 minutes or so, it will exit. i can easily re-load the program and its back to normal. also, sometimes both the network cards need to be disabled and re-enabled to talk to eachother. maybe its a bad router? is there a setting conflict in the router that could cause this? im inclined to get rid of the netgear and get another belkin. any ideas?

Try changing the wireless channel, it could be interference from another nearby router.

good idea. ill give it a shot.

i did a site survey with the PPC and there are MANY networks around here. it detected at least 4 (not including mine). the one im using right now (until my internet gets hooked up, hehe) is actually on channel 11 as well. so, its sharing the same channel, and strong enough for me to use in my house. ill change it and hope that solves the problem.

One piece of advice that has fixed this issue for me on a couple of occasions is to delete the xlobby.xml file. I think this has gone wrong for me at times when I was playing about with events, and using the Test button. I got some exceptions which allowed me to continue, which I did, but then at next restart I found XLobby kept crashing.

NB don't actually delete the file - just rename it out of the way so you get a clean XLobby startup but can still check up on your old settings.

this has been driving me nuts. i tried all the suggestions here, nothing worked. i even tried reconfiguring the network (server directly connected to HTPC, not to network, etc). nothing worked. if the PPC had ANY inactivity for more than a minute, it would just crash.

so, i had a brilliant idea. in the servers.txt file, i just put in "refresh:5000". it worked perfectly. it doesnt crash now. i still dont know what the actual problem is, but it refreshes every 5 seconds, thus no inactivity.
