Plugin for TVersity

Postby Marbles_00 on Wed Jul 04, 2007 5:09 pm

I came across TVersity today, and found it to be pretty 8) ...especially the Flash interface. I wonder if there would be a way to create a plugin that could interface with it? Not a plugin writter by any means, so I'm only wondering.

Check it out.

What type of plugin are you thinking of? TVersity is a UPnP Media server, and would normally be used as a content server for a UPnP Media Renderer (such as the DLink DSM-320 and other devices.) I could see 2 possibilities for xLobby plugins that utilize TVersity. One would be a plugin that turns xLobby into a UPnP Renderer that receives content from TVersity. The other would be a plugin that turns into a UPnP control point. This would allow you to browse the media available from the content server and push the content to the renderer. It would also allow you to control the media; playing, paused, stopped etc. If you google Cidero, you can find an example of a stand alone application that does just that. In my opinion this is the type of plugin for xlobby and tversity that I'd like to see.

Of course I wouldn't mind seeing a plugin that turns the xlobby machine itself into a UPnP Content server. But that would require a lot of work to provide the functionality that tversity provides. One of the really cool things about tversity is that it will transcode content on the fly, if it is not supported by the device that requests it.

Yeah, I guess what I'm wondering is if a plugin could be created to turn Xlobby into a UPnP control point (your second scenario)...or how hard it would be to create a plugin. As mentioned, I'm no plugin writer by any means, so I don't have a clue at the difficulties.

This is the plugin I really want, I can do this now with Premise but the GUI is not very good compared to Xlobby.
I have a media server running Tversity and a Dlink DSM-510 for playback right now and I can choose any video
I want to watch from my touchscreen and it plays back on the Dlink networked media player. I am waiting for
a better player to come out (Sigma 8634 based is one option) and then I will buy one for all the bedrooms and my
main TV room. I hope this is made a part of xlobby.

Guys im very interested about this as well... I started to use this when micro$hit WiMP11 did what every good micro$hit program does... ceased to work. Ok i can handle window$ BSODing u once or twice... but not being able to channel porn to bedroom's playstation!! thats way too much... burn in hell Bill Gaytes... Now im still having some newbie probs with this software...

But once i get those sorted out... i might take a look if it has somekind of programming interfaces and try to hatch a plugin of somekind... what im thinking really is to offer content and especially its structure from xlobby to be distributed by tversity.

just to bit clarify above teaser, so i wont create false hope, plugin im working on is not for TVersity but for another similar UPnP server software, which actually does provide (sort-of) plugin interface.

Plugining is coming along rather nicely and as usual for my plugins, besides its core functionality (providing selected XL databases accessible for DLNA-renderer) this one will include little bit added value in form of issuing preconfigureable xt-commands (including any XL events) via renderer. In simple english: u can control your freelobby via your bathroom bravia. :D
