2CD problem

Postby Arthur on Wed Jan 07, 2004 8:38 pm

hello, Some of my CD's are 2CD or 3CD. At this moment Xlobby put's each CD in it's own folder, with it's own cover art. I would like to put all the CD's into 1 folder and add extra files, indicating the CD and playing a small click sound (like start.wav).
the result shoudl look something like this:
CD 1
track werw
track wkjhreqkhr
...
CD 2
track erfg
track gtfusadg
..
CD 3
track hjgfjhgf
track hgfjehg

However, I can't seem to influence the way Xlobby sorts the files. All my audio files are APE format. Any suggestions?

Arthur,
I've been thinking about this as well & I think I know how to do it, but I haven't tried it so use at your own risk. What I would do would be to open up disc 2 and/or 3 in a tag editor & rename the tags to reflect disc 1, & then rename the track numbers so that they're all sequential (you may be able to do this as part of the ripping process, depending on what ripper you're using). Then I physically cut & paste those tracks into the folder for disc 1. Then you would need to get rid of the folders for discs 2 & 3, & have Xlobby rescan your collection.

Like I said, I haven't tried it, but I'm in the middle of ripping my collection, so when I get to my double cds, I'll give it a try & let you know how it works on my end.

I would echo what tracie said, edit your track tag (if your ape files are tagged) and probably edit the file name while your at it to something like this.

101-cd1track1.ape
102-cd1track2.ape
....
140-cd1track40.ape
200-some wacky start.wav
201-cd2track1.ape
202-cd1track2.ape
....
240-cd2track40.ape
300-some wacky start.wav
301-cd3track1.ape
302-cd3track2.ape
....
340-cd3track40.ape

So track 240 is actually CD2 track 40....you get the idea...that should work.

Arthur,
I actually experimented with ripping double cds last night & it works great (at least ripping this way from the outset). I use Media Center to do my ripping & it's got a built in tag editor that you can use to define the tags before you rip. It was actually much easier doing it this way than to go back & edit the tags afterward.

Thanks,

It works ok. The only strange problem I found was that when using a very short file (< 1 sec) winamp would stop playing (winamp problem, not xlobby related). So now a recorded 3 sec of silence.
To edit the ape ags I used the monkey's audio program, which is quite easy.
