Got bits not sure how to play

Postby dsp fan on Sun Oct 10, 2004 5:31 pm

Sorry my first post has to be to support, but building an HCPC and found xlobby.
Trying to simply play a DVD from the menu and trying to work out how i rip a dvd i own into the hardrive.

I have Xlobby, PowerDVD on XP Pro with lots of memory and 3.o ghz processor.
I have uploaded my DVD Profile list into the database which worked nice, but I am not sure how I associate the PowerDVD with xlobby and what i have to do to load the DVD into the system ?
Sorry if this seems simple but I am technical and cannot find much on how to do this so it must be so obvious to others I would rather learn the hard stuff myself and ask about the simple stuff.
thanks to all who reply

Hi DSP,

And welcome to frustration and great reward all in one package!

First thing, ripping your movies. Get hold of DVDShrink, and I thinks its version 3.1. Use this to rip all your movies to your disk. You can remove the menus and all the other stuff, just leaving behind the movie.

Next get hold of Zoomplayer. It uses the decoders from PowerDVD, but has a customizable front end. XLobby full integrates with it to play your movies.

Once you have ripped movies on your disk, make sure that the folder name matches the DVDprofiler name EXACTLY.

Then export the collections.xml from DVDprofiler and import it into the movie database, there are other posts that go into it in full detail.

Next I would grab one of the great skins on here and see how it all fits together.

And ask away :)

Simon.

Simon thanks a bunch for responding, theatretek seems to be the range happy to pay £40 for something that sounds that good. I guess it does the same as powerdvd and some. I will check out zoom player.

When you say exactly the same name, can you reference a couple of files for me, i have already done the collection. xml bit and it worked fine. What file name should i look for for example if i ripped Galdiator ?

Thanks a bunch and i looked forward to more frustrating weekends.

Hi Tony,

If you didnt end up with two of the same movies in Xlobby, then the import worked fine, it caused me problems so I just wanted to check it wasnt catching out someone else.

Whether you go for TT or ZP seems to be a personnal thing. I know the new version of TT is coming out soon, and it has the new Nvidia codecs that everyone is waiting for.

Simon,
I have no films ripped yet but i do have DVDshrink which I will play with tonight. Are you saying that when I rip the film, I need to ensure that film name with the _ts extension is the same ??

Sorry to be a pain, just trying to get off on a good start.

cheers, tony

Sorry guys,

getting a little confused again on DVD profiler and keeping it updated. So I just took a backup of Gothika, film only to play around with used DVDshrink no compression.

Now lots of problems, backed up to the reauthored for main only, backed up to hard drive. In the preview window i have sound, when i got to the back up files there are no sound files and the vob1 file plays but no sound ??

Input into DVDprofiler the details of Gothika and tried to reimport into xlobby the new collection.xml, no gothika. What do i need to do to launch gothika from the xlobby menu. Why does theatretek not play the DVD from the drive ??

Ahh
thanks

Simon,

got most bits about archiving, playing on TT and launching from Xlobby working, however adding in a film on dvd profiler and then importing into xlobby again from collection.xml, seems a long way around things, any quick way of adding new films ?

thanks again.

Hi tony,

Okay, lets start at the begining.

here is a guide for dvdshrink, it explains it far better than I can:

http://www.doom9.org/?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm

Just make sure that the folder name matches the name in dvdprofiler.

As for no sound, try again once you have read the guide. You should be able to open the vob in powerdvd at it plays normally.

Once you have imported the new collection.xml into XL, the movie should appear. Is it in the database if you look in the F2 menu?

I dont know anything about TT, sorry.

As for a quicker way, I have a post in the plugin section about this under the extreme thread I think.

What I am after is the ability to just put the DVD in the drive, come back 1hr later, to find it populated into my movie page in XL.

We can but dream :)

simon, thanks again

All working nicely with 2 films archived now. I guess i should call it a night.

Pixelation of image etc is now the graphics card GForce 5200 XT ultra so i guess everything will break once i start down that road.

The Xweather plugin thing appears to be broken for the 5 day forecast, paerhaps because i downloaded alpha40 pre beta ??

but other bits work really nice. Getting my head around displays for DVI next, infocus 5700, plasma, LCD all seem to have a problem. I basically want to play a few High Definition captures I have so I will help out the forum and the newbies when i see them.

thanks for helping a rookie.
