Speak your mind

Postby Tracie on Sat Mar 27, 2004 5:09 pm

Good call Colby. It'll take me a few days to sort through mine. I've got other projects that are demanding my time right now, but I'll try to get what I've got posted soon. Maybe it would be good to have a separate thread going for the trailer lists & set it up so that with each new post they're adding what hasn't already been listed. How does that sound?

EDIT: I've also been considering the mail sharing idea. The problem for Steven is going to be shipping for those of us in the states. It could get awfully expensive to have things going back & forth across the border. If he could handle the Canadian part of the equation then I could probably deal with the American side, but it would be on cdrs for now because of my lack of a dvd burner.

can I get hooked up with a username/pass so I can download

You won't need a password Steven... It will be anonymous download for now.. Like I said it's a 30 Mbit link  (3 E10's for you techies out there). It would be pretty hard for us to fill it up...

Greg

PS as soon as the content starts getting uploaded I'll post the link here for everyone to download from...

hope your right :)

for sure we need to start a list to see who has what...I have about a dozen or so trailers....they are in VOB format...I'm thinking video_ts.ifo is the best format because of theatertek people(pretty sure you guys cant use VOB yet...can you???). Makes me wonder....ddiv what format are your trailers in???

I dont mind shipping a few times to people who actually have burners so we can get some kind of distribution network going.

IFO and VOB

Postby galtigor on Sat Mar 27, 2004 8:24 pm

Turns out that ifo and vob are not mutually exclusive. The IFO file is an information file about the vob. Only the VOB has the video in it. I think Theatretek uses the ifo file as a pointer and organizer for the vob files. I'm going to look around for how to create ifo's from vob's. So you need both for Theatretek.

http://igloo.its.unimelb.edu.au/Webmail ... 00807.html

Found an IFO creator for vob files... Haven't tried it yet but I will shortly:

Yeah I was just going to say that. .VOB is the data part of the .IFO ...the ifo tells the player how to play the vob as far as I know...i think the best IFO creator if you have a vob is IFOEdit. its considered the most stable and it works 100% of the time if you use it right.

Steven, I also have all of those demoes (thats what I call them) the things Im talking about are actual trailers...not demos. If we are talkign about demos, I dont think there are more than that list out there.

Are we all talkign about different things???

I tried uploading to the ftp last nighyt but it was awfuly slow...I did a speed test fot my connection and got 14xx down and 350 up. So im not sure if thats faste enough to get 10 gigs of data up to greg without waiting a week. What I thought I would try is setting them up on my own ftp so we can avoid one transfer (me to greg) then you guys can try dling from me and if its too slow to work I can try sending them all to greg and just leaving overnight to complete.

let me know what you all think

ddiv,

Problem is it will be the same speed for me to pull from you as it would be for you to upload to the ftp site. the 350 upload is true regardless if you host the site or if you upload it. That's why Cable and DSL suck as a means of hosting web or ftp sites. So it doesn't really matter if you FTP up or if I pull it down. The only other way would be for you to cut it to dvd and mail it to me.. but that would take just as long anyway.

Ok, Steven has uploaded a few of his files so I'm going to post the FTP sites location:

ftp://208.181.214.74

You should be able to attach anonymously to it and download. If you have any troubles let me know.

Not all of Steven's files are up yet so you might get an error if you try and download a file he's still uploading...

If you use DVD Shrink to rip, like ddiv has, then all the resulting files should be .ifo, .bup, .vob, etc. & will work on both TT & Zoomplayer. Vobs by themselves will be trickier because TT needs that ifo file structure to play a file, but it is possible (so I'm told) to recreate ifo file structure off of a vob alone using Ifoedit. Bob Sorel over on AVS knows the drill & how to do it, I just haven't payed that much attention to that part.

I understand that it will be the same for you to take from me as for me to give to you...however I figured that most people wouldnt be trying to take the full 10gigs, rather theyd take what they wanted in smaller increments. So basicallyw hat you are saying is that you think I should just dump it all to your site regardless of how long it takes? Is your space 10gigs exactly?

Also, winDVD can play vobs too. Its actually very simple to creat an IFO from a vob if anyone is wondering. Just open IFOedit, click the creat IFO button ont he bottom point to your VOB click ok to everything that pops up and then hit "get vts sector" once its all done...tada working IFOs

Ok ive started uploading the first bunch up to the "R's" I will finish ripping the rest of my dvds tonight and add to it as it finishes. Im not sure how long itll ake to finish...its still calculating the time  Im not sure if you will be able to take trailers as they finish or if you will have to wait until the end....I guess if you see a full set of ifos and vobs in the VIDEO_TS folder then its ok to go (the audio_TS folder is always empty dvdshrink creates it automatically)

update: It says 2 days left... :? although those conters arent always accurate. Greg can you see what kind of speeds im pulling om your end? This may turn into a mail based project afterall. :(

After 2 hours or so...its still says 2 days 3 hours left and I cant even find more than one trailer thats ocmpleted...i think this is not going to work.

Try zipping up the files first.. they're binary so it might not make much of a difference.

Also maybe be selective about what you upload. Just put up the stuff you think others may want... Not all of it.

I also tried ifoedit on some of those VOB's that Steven uploaded. It didn't work... just kept coming back with errors.
