Help each other out

multiclient, multizone

I hate to ask so many beginner questions:

If you have 3 xlobby fat clients running with 1 xlobby server - does this collectively yield 4 ZONES that can be independently controlled on any of the 4 clients depending on the proper skin? or do the 4-zones have to be on the server?

can i use my kitchen xlobby fat client to select music for my gameroom xlobby fat client?

thanks

I have 2 fat clients and one server. they all can play music, be viewed, and controlled from each other. carbonfiber skin has screens built in for it. button on bottom of music screen takes u to anther screen that says zones that takes you to zones screen. if you want each zone to play music you will need to have a path on each fat client to winamp on each machine. look around its scattered about.

also music and video files can be on any machine but you only put path in server and i found its best to add by my network/machine/drive/folder instead of just drive/folder. otherwise fat client get path of like e:/movie and it really on server. that was cauing my clients to lockup at database on startup. then i deleted databases and it would start.

Ask as many questions as you want. This is the way to learn. Genvon it right, you should be able to control any fat client from anyother fat client. And yes, fat clients are considered as zones. I'm just not to sure if you would be able to achieve synced audio though (I've only experimented with a pretty slow server computer and haven't tried again recently).

Hope this helps.

My experience with sync'd audio is: when i tried it about a year ago they would just slowly go out of sync until it just skipped complete songs (maybe after 10 songs). Now it seem like one zone just kind of skips alittle and then they resync (not alot better). But they stay on the same song and are mostly sync'd. before someone talked about having a dummy zone. That would be ok if that was the one that skipped.

this is with seperate fat clients. i never tried multi-clients on same card or multi-cards in same computer. thinking about a xantech

computers are: server 3000xp, clients 2500xp and opteron 146

I have been messing with this for yearsand finally gave up and bought a Xantech ZPR68 and Expander for 10 zones. Now I'm trying to figure out the best way to control it all.
