DVD Movie Playing

Help each other out

DVD Movie Playing

I just want to say thanks for all the help everyone has provided to most of my issues so far.

If these questions have already been answered, I apologize ahead of time. I'm working on my DVD Movie screens. I'm using Ant to get the information of all my DVD's from the web. Using Xant to make my database. I've made two screens. One is for movie selection, and the second gives information about the movie. I will then have a button on the information page to start the movie (movies will be ripped to the hard drive and left in .ifo/.vob format). I've looked at the play button from the Heavy Metal skin and its event is movies:play movie. How does the actual movie get selected? I want to do something similar, but don't quite understand how to set up an event/command to start any particular movie. Oh and I want to use Theatertek to perform DVD movie duties.

My second question is that I've used information from IMDB to build up the DVD library. I've used their rating system out of 10, this is also the generic rating system in Ant. How do you display a 4 or 5 "star" rating system when the actual system is out of 10? Or do I have to find an Ant database on the net that gives a rating out of 4 or 5?

If the info screen is an overlay, then the selected movie from the underlaying category will still be active, thus a play movie event will launch the file. You could associate *.vob files with Theater tek in windows or you could make the launch event. I am not too sure how heavy metal does the launch movie, but it doesnt seem to difficult to launch a movie, especially since they are all online.

As for rating a movie. I suspect you can pull the 10 star ratings as a field on your movies screen. They wont be pictures Im sure. I suggest screw the generic rating system of someone else, and rate them yourself. Then you can set it up however you want 5 stars, 10, 2 thumbs up or whatever. I have this in my skin with variable set. http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1310&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=49

Actually I was finally able to play a VOB file successfully. I forgot to set up the parameters in the movie database.

Now I've noticed that I cannot play the movie from the .ifo file. Is there a way af entering all the vob's in the parameter line of the movie database so each vob will play after one another?

Colby thanks for the tip on the ratings. I've looked at that skin and find it pretty impressive. I was hoping for a nice automated way of setting up a movie rating, but not a problem.

I should explain myself better. I used CladDVD to rip the movie to my harddrive. That set up a bunch of .vob files. I then ripped the .ifo and .ts files.

In Xlobby, I edited the database parameter line to point to the .ifo file. When selecting the movie and pressing my "play" button, TheaterTek starts but nothing more happens. When I replace the .ifo file with a .vob file and perform the same function, TheaterTek will start playing the .vob file fine. I then tried to enter multiple .vob files in the parameter line, but this would not work. How does one set up Xlobby to play a movie from the HDD using the .ifo file or setting up with multiple .vob files?

Is it just as simple as using different ripping software that will modify the .ifo to look for only the movie .vob's and ignore all the other video/menus from the DVD (which I don't really need for what I'm trying to do). From everything I have read from the TheaterTek site is that it should be able to play the movie from loading the .ifo files.

Never tested TT but did you try to only give the directory without file (in general, for a dvd player, we only give the drive)
