Beginner Qs re: Cover Art & Navigation

Postby rembetis on Thu Jul 28, 2005 10:41 pm

Hello,

I'm slowly trying to migrate from myHTPC, reading as much as I can but either my search skills aren't what they used to be or I'm missing something obvious because so far I've been kind of stumped by a couple things. Any help would be hugely appreciated...

1. If a music folder contains multiple images, is there a way to dictate which image file Xlobby uses for cover art? In myHTPC, the app simply uses the first file listed (alphabetically), but Xlobby seems more random. I know about the spiders and/or using the db editor to adjust the art *after* the fact... just trying to make my database import as seemless/painless as possible.

2. How does one go about adapting a skin from touchscreen/mouse navigation to remote/keyboard?I use a combination of an IR keyboard or (more often) a universial JP1 remote programmed to mimic the keyboard (main keys being the arrows, enter, esc.). I've found the navigation part of the Event menu, but the learning curve is little steep there.

Well, guess that's it for now. Sure I'll have dozens more once I try to do something advanced...

Xlobby helps those who help themselves...

To answer the first part of my question... well, obviously the easiest way is to only have one image file in each folder. But, if you're like me and have complete art scans for some albums, then you basically have three opions:

A) Temporarily rename the extension of the other image files to something like .bak instead of .jpg, etc. (and change it back when/if you need to open or print them).

B) Xlobby's image selection is not, in fact, random. It appears to choose the *last* image in each file (alphabetically), unless that file is over some predetermined size. So, you could always add a "zzz_" to the front of the file name you want. (Unless of course, you're switching back and forth between myHTPC and xlobby, in which case you'd want both a "aaa_" and a "zzz_" copy of the same file.)

C) Use the spider and/or database editor to manual select the image you want.

In the end, it looks like C is the best option, if you don't want alter your fileset.

Still working on the navigation question...
