lol, two curious minds want to know.

There is no official announcement yet, but I am no longer working on xlobby. I stopped working on it after a couple weeks into July.

Do to the complex arrangement I have with Calrad I cannot take it back for myself or do anything with it, so please don't ask for the source code or for a final free version.

And even if I could take it back, the landscape has changed drastically to the point where a system like xlobby is really questionable. I think you will see everything move to individual apps, a lighting app, a movie app, a security app, a music app...etc...etc....the idea on centralizing everything into one app just doesn't apply for the vast majority of consumers...and the complexity involved with coordinating with so many 3rd party manufactures for hardware products is difficult at best. Yes, you still have a few people that want a customized all in one solution, but those people are few and far between to be honest....and the level of skill required for an average installer to do an xlobby system is frankly beyond most of them, but I think that just something inherent in the xlobby system itself....it was always something that was complex to use but that was the cost of having all that customization...looking back I think too much customization was built into the system and it became a product for a very niche market.

I'll answer any questions, feel free to ask whatever. I was going to write a big long post but this will do for now I guess, I honestly don't know how many people use the forum anymore ever since the decision was made to try to turn it into an installers forum.

Wow, really sorry to hear this!

Personally, I have intergrated Xlobby quite well with everything in my tag line....I will be sorry to see the product go stagnant.

Good luck to you and to your future endeavors... We will miss you!!!

Bummer indeed. Best to you Stephen!
How will license management be handled? I'm currently using 3 of the 5 I bought.

This is truly sad! Stephen you have always been open and helpful. THANK YOU! I cant imagine you not being part of Xlobby!

I do miss the old forum and everyone chatting about how they are going about their installs. I owe a lot of my system to that era.

Any way of picking up where that left off? I still think there is a need for a great front end.

May I ask what will happen with the licensserver?
What happens when that is removed?
Will u give out a final version without license?

Regards

Wow. I check back once in a while, hoping there would be a resurgence. I hope whatever you do in the future, Steven, it brings you good fortune. And I have opinions, but perhaps in another place and another time :)

And of course, let everyone know where you end up.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm glad some people are still some people using the system. As everyone is fully aware this software would never have been what it is today without all the early adopters....the feedback and suggestions in the very early days was priceless....I remember when I used to post this thing on the avsforums....wow that was sooooo long ago....pretty cool that it came from such humble beginnings.

I really tried to fix the major memory leaks I knew about in my last month, I still feel the final build I made was the most stable build to date. So although I'm 100% sure you guys wont be using it forever, and you'll end up replacing it with something else sooner or later, at least you have a solid build until something else grabs your interest.

So right now I'm taking a long deserved break from xlobby, I've just been going non stop on this thing for so long...looking back I put way too many hours into this thing...and living on west coast time living in the east coast was not something I would recommend...but I think you do that when you believe in something and you enjoy doing it you make sacrafices. So yah I'm enjoying some well deserved rest, even get to ride my GS500 during the day on weekdays now :)

I guess the main question is regarding what will happen to the licensing stuff, I will say you don't have to worry about that for the time being, I'm still going to keep the server running for a few more months. But yah I will implement some sort of area in F2 setup to license it with a simple common pass phrase.

Wow,

So this is truly the end of something great. I know I haven't been really active in the last while...even stopped using xlobby on my media machines save the music-server. I always had, and still have a fondness for this great piece of software. I've even spent time helping others achieve a certain level of "Xlobby" prestige in the last while, even though I haven't been actively working on anything Xlobby related myself.

My questions are more towards what happens to the xlobby website...and more, this forum. How long will this remain? Also does this mean that the xweather plugin will die when a change is made?

Also, I suppose the the ftp site wasn't used so much anymore, but how long will that remain too?

Lot's of other questions, like what direction is Calrad going in, since you indicate that ownership of the software belongs to Calrad. Are they going to keep it going? Doesn't sound like it if your going to implement a simple license pass phrase. Sounds as though they will keep a core as is, and work on individual modules to perform specific functions.

Good that you have your health, and your OK with how things have played out. I'd be a little sad to see something I worked so hard on, to just loose all control of it and its direction. Must have got a good compensation package for it  .

Good luck to you Steven, with all your future endeavors. Hopefully they can and will all be as full-filling as your Xlobby project has been.
