Calrad - Xlobby Multizone Amplifier Card

Postby wesblack on Sat Jul 28, 2007 4:35 am

We just received some of our first prototype xLobby Class D Amplifier cards and are working on adding some additional features. The purpose behind this card is to do single or multizone audio directly from a Client or Server based xLobby media unit without using external amplifiers. Input to the card can be a direct analog signal or a assignable USB digital signals. The reason for the analog input is so that external audio sources can be selected using external xLobby controlled audio switchers providing not only xLobby's audio source but sources from other audio devices as well. Also using a 5.1 or 7.1 sound card, audio can feed up to 3 or 4 stereo zones of audio using these card's. The USB digital input act's as a single zone audio sound card and xLobby can assign zones directly to them.

Now xLobby can be a stand alone system for small area's without an external amplifier or receiver. We have some other class D amplifiers, still in development that can be located inside the chassis that will deliver up to 60 watts per channel.

We will have these card's at the Denver Cedia show in September.

Hallo W,

when I read your post I was reminded of the problems I encounteed in the past several times.
This is exactly where I got stuck about a year ago; finding software that was able to manage multiple audio devices simultaneously and independantly of each other.

My goal was finding a way to run multiple HTPC programs that could be operated independantly of each other. Each program has it's own control through Girder software, Gyration remotes and own video and audio output. Serving 4 'rooms' with independant video was quite easy, in possesion of two dual head Matrox Pharelia cards there're several options. It was the handling of the multiple independant audio sources at the same time, within the somewhat just-over-the-avarage-family-multimedia-pc budget, where I got stuck and I had to put the whole project on hold.

To make a short story long and recap whether I got it right:
a. With these mods to xLobby, will I be able to run multiple media programs (MediaPortal,Vista MC and xLobby) on one machine and manage their audio simultaneously and independantly of each other with xLobby?
b. If no, would it be possible to manage several virtual machines and assigning them to these indepenant outputs?
c. If none, what then?!

One way or the other, I really appreciate your post, it's always nice to see that there is always someone out there doing a better job!
Regardless of the answers to the questions above, I want to thank you and eveyone else beforehand for putting effort in this. It's because of exactly this way of networking that internet is what it is nowadays. As long as there's this kind of customization there will be people wanting it!

Oh yes, do you happen to know what the price may be and where I can order it?

cheers,
Quark

I can't find it on your site. Also, I tried contacting a local distibutor http://eskc.com/default.asp and they don't have them. Any thoughts?

Thanks WES

I think Wes would like you to call Bob Adams on this.

Email from Wes regarding the multizone hardware:
"If you want to order these, please contact Bob Adams at bobadams@calrad.com or Tel: 323-465-2131."
