crash after bleeding edge updates/crash after clean install

Postby S Pittaway on Sun May 16, 2010 4:40 pm

lately i if i do a bleeding edge update it seems to result in xlobby crash just after startup, if i ignore the send error report xlobby seems to run fine (but its crashed of course :)).

last time i did a clean install then it worked... not this time.

this has been happening quite a bit recently so i thought it was worth mentioning (never had a probblem before ~ a month ago)

cheers, sean,

Interesting because I normally use the release versions and until about a month ago I received the same quite a bit. It seems to have settled down now.

I think someone mentioned it may have to do with 'permissions' and that XL should be started as an Administrator app.
I guess something to do with file sharing.

Sean, is this one one specific machine?
Don't know how many licenses you have.

I'm not seeing a crash (yet).
Did you try removing your "plugins" like weather, dvdcopier, etc?
I had a similar crash after startup issue about a year ago, and it was being caused by a faulty item in one of the weather files.
Also, try deleting your "cache" folder, and move everything out of the "databases" folder if it's one of the databases, you can then add them in one at a time to see which one is causing the problem.
I hope this helps, but you've probably already tried all this. If I see the same crash, I'll report it.
Good luck.

i have tried completely removing xlobby and then re-installing it and i always end with a crash.

i am sure there is a something funny going on with the machine (works fine on my laptop), but i will be dammed if i can track it down.

The log shows nothing of interest:

06/18 09:14:29:56 PM, trigger:Events:skin\startup set toggle
06/18 09:14:29:59 PM, trigger:Events:skin\startup set view
06/18 09:14:29:73 PM, xlobby:save to variable
Param1:Basic
Param2:currentview

06/18 09:14:29:76 PM, music:album open

06/18 09:14:32:31 PM, xLobby: Loaded

crash is just after the main menu is shown.

also like i said it works 100% of the time with builds before 15 April!

Okay, so only crashing on one machine.
Are there any other instances of xLobby running on your network when the crash happens?
Did you try starting with machine disconnected from your network?
Has any hardware changed network/video cards, etc.?
Strange that only one machine is crashing.
[edit]I agree with Jay; that you may want to test the RAM(if you haven't already)[\edit]

i left memtest running last night and 0 errors found',

software rendering on/off no difference
sound card on/off no difference
network on/off no difference
its the only instance of xlobby.

whatever is "crashing" cant be that important if i dont press the send error/close box xlobby runs fine.

i have been using this pc with xlobby for ~2 years and there as never been a problem.

something changed after the 15 April build, and my pc does not like it :)

btw, thanks for the suggestions.

its not the end of the world because the older builds are 100% reliable, it just bugs me that i cant find the corse of the crash.
