Calrad Video Balun Technology

Postby wesblack on Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:18 pm

Calrad has a complete line of Balun technology, these are products that use Cat5e, Cat6 UTP cable to carry HDTV or Low Res Video, Audio, USB, Mouse & Keyboard. In other words unbalanced signal to balanced signals, some devices are active and others are passive. Our new series of Baluns the 40-6110 Units provide both Video and Stereo audio over 1 Cat5e UTP Cable. As the website continues to mature there will be more products and information available.

Active: Means requires small DC Power Supplies
Passive: Does not require Power

8 Zone Active Balun Diagram example.

Looking at this diagram Wes it looks like this is just distributing whatever is selected on the component switcher. It's not going to let each Zone choose which of the 4 inputs to receive. Correct?

The diagram is just one example of what you can do. There are many possibilities. Some models of the Baluns are point to point solutions others have loop out on transmitters and receivers as well as multiple output's. We will be adding new Information, diagrams and products here on a regular bassis. Just remember these active balun devices can transmit either HDTV or PC based signals over a single Cat5 with Audio. Where as many conventional shielded cables are required to do the same job. The active Balun products can transmit signals over Cat5 cabling at greater distances where as shilded cables at some point need an amplfier or booster to do the same job.

Calrad will be launching a product line next month that can do HDMI, DVI over a single Cat5. There will be several versions of this technology some models suited for short distances and others for longer distances.

That certainly sounds interesting. Yeah, I'll be around this year with the company I work for. Hoping to walk the floor a bit during some down time. First NAB for me.
